...and, while i cannot sleep and end up composing filks about painkilers (o give me 'brufen, make 'em one-two-three, i will take them, they'll go to sleep with me...) and wondering about the fact that by day i feel no cold and by night i sleep next to a fully-on radiator under a double duvet, i'd just like to state that the preponderace of 'seme' and 'uke' should be answered with growing use of 'tachi' and 'neko': butch, and femme.

...which is mainly amusing when you transpose it into situations where the /other/ meanings of tachi and neko are used. the linuxmandy half of the computer features a little silly toy thing which has now been renamed 'femme', and the 'phrase minna-chan-tachi' will now make me blink and reread.

And, you know, when i got all that information I was /supposed/ to have got and be reading books about isolationism in the tokugawa bafuku, not about homosexuality in the tokugawa bafuku (which is dealt with in one of the chapters, hence how i found it). So close, but yet so far.

Subject:i killed my first bear when i was only three!
Time:6:51 pm.
i wrote all this stuff, and then i hit a button and it disappeared. waaah.

so, um, i have had productive day with no sk00l but much meiji. well, tokugawa. i hope i'll be able to read my squeaky mechanic pencil notes on narrowline paper at some random point in the future, i really do. and then, having decided that sorai was inessential and the reading of him in 2 different translations i'd done was All In Vain, i left: and discovered a booksale at ULU. Mmmm, boooks.

someone should make sure that you don't let a harpy with ready cash near printed matter.

i now have study-helpful texts for english: chaucer's characterisation in canterbury tales, essays on the (ugh ugh ugh hate hate hate) tempest, oxford companion to amerilit. And I found an original faber-and-faber Murder in teh Cathedral, which I glomped, publically, and then almost fell over something. Plus a nice new shiny translation (well, actually matt, because matt has more class. neatly-polished-with-dry-pumice, maybe. ^_^) of the Odyssey. Mmmm, homer. And, and and, a new translation of Goethe's Faust which actually purports to be /good/ - which cannot be said of the last translation of it i read - and really seems it. And I read the heavenly introduction, the one with god and mephisto and the archangels, and: no uriel! because Uriel doesn't exist in most mythology of major archangels (who comprise the other three elements)! and anyway earth isn't a hebrew element! which made me happy, because, um. yeah. And I then, reading the second speech - gabriel - realised that once, long ago, i had written a trio to the words of that hymn-of-praise as 'twas written in the bad translation. And, um, I'd made gabriel a soprano (woman/young girl), and michael an alto/treble/countertenor (young boy's voice, preff.), and raphael tenor-poss-baritone.

And therefore i have decided that me and yuki-sensei had the same ideas going there, darn it.

you know, sometimes i wish i wasn't always so keen on this jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none thing. Considering i have the tune of a Hymn To The Virgin based on a Catullus lyric (dianae sumus in fide / puellae et pueri integri / dianam, pueri integri / puellaeque, canamus) stuck in my head, and i don't know enough about composition, really, to know whether i can write it right. Hell, i have issues with just writing the notes that comprise music, sometimes. Or even with /reading/ them. O, why didn't I specialise?

In other news, I just found my everyman and medieval miracle plays. Eee! medieval depictions of the Fall! with Alliteration!

Lucifer: O, what I am featous and figured full fit!
The form of my fairhood upon me is fest;
All wealth in my wield is, I wot by my wit,
The beams of my brighthead are bigged with the best,
My showing is shimmering and shining.
So bigly to bliss am I brought,
Me needs for to noy me right nought;
Here shall never pain me be pining.

(...and my composition brain should stop suggesting i make it a children's miniopera, with different musical styles to represent the different characters.)

...if my parent's friends are intellectuals, thinking people, people who use the internet regularly, why do they not have the sense to plug the term "sulfnbk" into an internet search and WORK OUT that if you have win95/8 it's extremely likely to be a hoax?
