Sarah: uh, well, i don't know that much Asian literature in /general/, but as far as Japanese goes, I'd reccomend Murakami. Both of 'em. Ryu I've only read 'almost transparent blue', but it... has impact; Haruki's 'Underground' is interesting as a non-fiction assessment of the Japanese psyche in the light of the Sarin gas attacks (and a bad idea to read on the tube every morning, as i did: what's the strange smell? why do those people look comatose at 7:30am? no, it /can't/ be... ahem.), while 'A wild sheep chase' has vaguely Noonic moments (eeee!) and Norwegian Wood is just a simple love story... along with a load of other novels and short story collections whose names avoid me now.
but then, you probably know about those two already, ne? ^_^

i feel like i should blog (...well, journal) something interesting, find a meme to contribute to. As it is... I'm playing with my journal face and trying to remember as many of my old thirteen-year-old doggerel lyrics as i can. Which is decidedly few.
the icon is the non-human whore from asmo's place, negativised. just because.
maybe i should work. hm. interesting prospect...

Actually, after reading Squid's extremely /accurate/ rant about the 13x5 pairing in Gundam (which I, personally, don't see, but.), i'll... complain! Yeah! Spinning off a point of hers...
I hate, hate hate hate, this assumption that in the perfect Fic Universe Everyone Is Gay. This sort of, well, heterophobia - only on the part of heterosexual females for the most part - really fucking irritates me. Perhaps I'm a pretentious little snit who takes this fanfiction shit far too seriously (although my hopes and dreams do /not/ rest on it, and i'm always amerable to c&c, especially if it rips my writing /apart/, because i can't do that myself and /someone/ needs to /hint), but I get aggravated by this, this AU in which Nobody Is Straight. It doesn't reflect anything like reality, which all art should: I'd call fanfiction an art, yes, the same way i call advertising art and expect literate writing on objects not presumed to be 'literature', like manuals and history books. Which is another rant for another day.

test news (while downloading rachel[heart]stamp tracks i already have on tape. um.)
a little way back, i did the m*a*s*h test - teefed from, uh, y'all - and came up with Brendan Fraser in the Mummy. So i did it again. Obviously. And came up with Russell Crowe in Gladiator.
That shit ain't funny, yo.
(i didn't have a problem with you've got a problem with me: i rubbed you up. well i'm not gonna kiss her on her pretty little lips cuz it prob'ly will be just not enough)
In other tests:
You're Aya.

| Despite having the personality of a downright cold-hearted asshole, you still seem to have a large collection of fan-girls. Everyone seems to love you, and worship the ground your stiff feet walk on. You never let grudges go, you're not a very good friend, and frankly you wouldn't mind if you became death (all the more better to ignore the world around you!). So many people find you dead-sexy it doesn't matter how you act. I guess beauty really is only skin deep! Which member of WeiB are you? Take the quiz! |
I wouldn't mind if i became death! you /know/ it.
link gacked from chibimazoku
and, by the way? I /hate/ tests with bad html. *changeu*. and in the ffviii selector, today, I am fuu, then squall, then cid. hn.

To clarify: the glory of yaoi and shounen-ai is that you /don't/ have to deal with AIDs if you're in, say, Gundam or SKU Universe: they /can/ be nonexistent. Although I'd say lube was /always/ an essential, myself. But, you know, my interests in realism have their limits. ^_^
very late linkage of something interesting: Sarah Q's thing on fanfiction, written around the time of the last great fanfiction blogmeme. With which I in many ways agree. Yes.
