i dreamt i was in buffy last night. people... fainting, from something, a girl in the unisex loos that the school were trying to de-unisex, and then somehow i managed an attempt to steal the collapsed people and ended up in some cramped little room providing light relief by talking about sea monkeys with Oz. who was stoned. and... complaining about the way everyone at some festival thought he was gay.
is what i can remember.
most odd.

shrove tuesday: pancakes. sugar and lemon and i'll always readily make them. i can make pancakes, like i can bake. well, i used to be able to bake. maybe i still can.
my dad's computer - Sparta - is suffering a surface scan: suffering, because most of the end of it is damaged, and every few minutes it pops up a box asking if it can transfer data from the broken sections - fix it don't fix it more info - and you have to choose to fix and then it will run again for another minute or so. it's been stuck at around 95% for an hour.
metaphor for something. conceit for something, actually: too long and developable to be a mere metaphor. if one can have mere metaphors.

Thinking about the scanlations rantmeme (pretty much everyone i link has an opinion on this, i'm too lazy to look 'em out): about the fact that, well, I dislike scanlations for no definable reason, just find them /wrong/, somehow, but then have never encountered one, so. I buy manga in the japanese, and then try to translate it/give up and reach for someone else's translations/did i mention how much difficulty i'm having with AS? But i /do/ have experience of downloaded fansubbed anime, and I /do/ have experience of mp3 filesharing. which isn't that different, really.
mp3 sharing is... different, in that it's as much the record labels behind the song as the artist themselves: not that scanlations aren't as much the publisher as the mangaka, not that fansubbed anime isn't as much the distibutor/company anime artist. but i don't know the profit margins on anime and manga, and i /do/ know that the percentage of money on a track that goes to the artist can be a pittance and the profit margins of huge companies can be /large/. And unlike with, say, anime, the profit from merchandise goes mostly into the managing company of the artist and the artist themself, whereas i get the impression that whoever 'owns' the anime gets a cut as well as does the anime's creator in the sale of anime merchandise. i could be way off. anyway, anime merchandise seems to be a larger market - proportionally - than band merchandise.
(downloaded anime tends not to be as good quality as anime on dvd, you know? if i like an anime, i'd much rather see it in dvd quality than the bleaching-out tiny screen of a download. hence why i've started saving money to buy dvds of /stuff i know i like/.)
( 'anyway. when napster came...' )
