Mmmm, timewasting. That there first sentences of ten of my favourite novels (novels, because a deal of my favourite books appear currently to be nonfiction) survey, bearing in mind that most of our books are in storage while the painting's going on, so it was pretty much what-I-picked-off-the-shelf.

Surveys are great: the feel like they're so much more for the taker than the (possible) reader-of-results. Which is always fun.
