About fifty percent of my Japanese class are either Chinese or Korean, by extraction or by birthplace. This fails to surprise me. Also, failing miserably to translate manga has paid off: I can transcribe hiragana with much less stress and time wasted than everyone else seems to be claiming. And why did no-one tell me that simple, basic Japanese was grammatically similar to German andor Latin? Verb at the end of the sentence, particles often used like case-ending and preposition all in one, time-place-space but in a different order... it's not yet the most horrific thing in the world; it's kinda fun, actually. Except the memorising bit.
