The absence of gay in AD Police continues to perplex me. How can a show have both Boomers and rampant heterosexuality? Either my fangirldar's failing me, or something is very very wrong. XFM is apparently an alternative station, and there's a plethora of good new bands around: the indieesque scene is more vibrant nowadays than it's been since 1997. And yet, the freshest-sounding, most interesting record they managed to play while I was doing the ironing was Duran Duran's Planet Earth (in their token 'ironic' gesture to everyone's illicit eighties pop past, because we are all thirty-year-olds, aren't we?). It took me two full loads of washing before they even got around to playing something new, for fuck's sake. Thank fuck Gary Crowley's on GLR - or London Live, or BBC London, or whatever they're calling it now. There is one consistently good day-/eveningtime DJ left on UK radio (Peel can be a little too esoteric for me, and is on too late for me to have the radio on unless I want to wake up to the Radio1 breakfast show *shudder*) and he only does two days a week. ...I wonder what Steve Lamacq's been doing since his Evening Session ended? Beyond going to gigs more, bless him.
